Four decades of devotion to craft.
“Tailoring is not what I do. It is what I am.”
— Julia, founder
Julia began sewing as a young girl — not as a hobby, but as a calling. She spent ten years at a bridal boutique in London, building gowns from the pattern up: boned bodices, hand-finished seams, the kind of work that is measured in millimetres and cannot be rushed. She then brought that training to the United States and built Express Alterations from the ground up.
Over forty years, she has worked with every kind of garment — bridal gowns, tailored suits, delicate silks, structured wools, vintage heirlooms passed down through generations, and a great many pairs of trousers that simply needed to be the right length. She has dressed brides on their wedding morning, fitted executives before board meetings, and repaired beloved pieces that could not be replaced. Each garment has taught her something. Each client has been a collaboration.
When you bring something to Julia, you are not dropping it off at a shop. You are handing it to someone who has spent a lifetime caring about exactly this — the way a seam falls, the way a collar sits, the way a garment makes you feel when the fit is exactly right. That depth of experience does not come from a course or a certification. It comes from forty years of showing up and doing the work.
